Vent for blood sample collection device

A major medical device manufacturer contacted Bio-Pore to provide a solution for venting a blood sample collection system. Venting medical devices is a common application for Bio-Pore’s self-sealing porous plastic technology. Our unique material is molded to create a single use, functional vent allowing air flow at a highly controlled rate through precise porosity. Upon contact with a liquid however, the vent will shut off preventing any fluid bypass and sealing the vent completely.

Unlike membrane type vents, Bio-Pore’s self-sealing vents can be molded into various 3D shapes, easily integrated into the device’s design, and is easily handled in high volume automation. Working closely with the medical device manufacturer’s engineering team, Bio-Pore successfully developed a custom, self-sealing porous component allowing air to vent through their device channel, while sealing off blood contact for safety of use for the medical personnel.
